Klaviyo Pricing 2026: Real Costs at Every Tier (Complete Breakdown)
What Klaviyo actually costs in 2026 — every tier from 500 to 100K contacts, pulled directly from klaviyo.com. Plus SMS pricing and hidden gotchas.
Klaviyo's pricing page is famously hard to scan. There are no big "Starter / Growth / Pro" tile cards. There's a slider. You drag it, the number changes, and you try to remember what the price was three tiers back.
So we did the dragging for you. Every figure in this article was pulled directly from klaviyo.com on May 18, 2026 1. No estimates, no extrapolation. If a tier isn't here, it wasn't on the page.

TL;DR: Klaviyo pricing at a glance
| Contacts | Email only 1 | Email + SMS (~1 SMS/contact, US) 1 |
|---|---|---|
| 500 | $20/mo | $35/mo (Email $20 + ~$15 SMS credits) |
| 5,000 | $100/mo | $145/mo (Email $100 + $45 SMS credits) |
| 25,000 | $400/mo | $625/mo (Email $400 + $225 SMS credits) |
| 100,000 | $1,380/mo | $2,280/mo (Email $1,380 + $900 SMS credits) |
SMS math assumes one US-bound SMS per active profile per month at $0.009/credit. International routes cost dramatically more — UK is 5x, Germany is 12x.
For comparison: Spoks is $35/month flat, unlimited contacts, email and SMS included.
How Klaviyo prices its plans
Klaviyo uses a contact-based model. Three things drive your bill:
1. Active profiles. This is the count Klaviyo bills on. An active profile is any profile that's emailable, SMS-able, push-able, or otherwise reachable in your account. Suppressed and unsubscribed profiles do not count against your billing tier — that's confirmed in Klaviyo's own FAQ, which states profiles automatically tier up as your active count grows and recommends suppressing dead profiles "so that you aren't paying for profiles that are no longer providing value" 1.
2. SMS / MMS / WhatsApp credits. Klaviyo doesn't sell SMS as a flat monthly price. You buy a credit pack. Credits get consumed per message, and the credit-per-message rate varies by country and message type 1:
- 1 US SMS = 1 credit ($0.009 per send, carrier fees included)
- 1 Canada SMS = 3 credits ($0.028)
- 1 UK SMS = 5 credits ($0.045)
- 1 Australia SMS = 4 credits ($0.037)
- 1 Germany or Netherlands SMS = 12 credits ($0.108)
- 1 US MMS = 3 credits
- 1 UK WhatsApp marketing message = 10 credits
- 1 UK WhatsApp transactional message = 4 credits
3. Reviews (add-on). Klaviyo Reviews is a separate paid product priced by monthly orders, not contacts. More on that below.
The free tier
Klaviyo's free tier covers up to 250 active profiles, 500 email sends/month, and 150 mobile message credits/month 1. Customer Hub, basic reporting, and email support (for the first 60 days) are included. You hit 251 contacts, you pay.
If you're under 250 contacts and don't plan to grow, the free tier is genuinely free. Beyond that, you're on the paid grid.
Email plan: price at every tier
Below is every tier currently visible on Klaviyo's public pricing slider for the Email-included Marketing plan, as of May 18, 2026 1. Each tier includes a monthly email send cap (roughly 10x active profiles).

| 250,001+ | Pricing not publicly listed — contact Klaviyo for a quote | — |
Notice the staircase: the per-contact cost is small at the bottom (around 4 cents per contact at the 5K tier), then jumps in tighter increments through the middle, then loosens again at enterprise scale. The 6,501-10,000 tier is the strangest deal on the page — the price barely moves while you can grow profiles 53%. The very next tier (10,001-10,500) jumps $25 for adding one contact.
If you're picking a contact range, sit at the bottom of each tier. The price is the same whether you have 6,501 profiles or 10,000.
Email + SMS: price at every tier
SMS pricing on Klaviyo isn't a fixed monthly line item. You buy a credit pack each month based on volume, and credits get consumed per message at country-specific rates.
How SMS credit math actually works
The Klaviyo pricing calculator surfaces this in fixed packs at low volume, then scales linearly at $0.009 per credit once you cross 5,000 credits/month 1:
| Total credits needed (US, 1 credit = 1 SMS) | Monthly SMS cost |
|---|---|
| 150 (included free with paid plan) | $0 |
| 1,250 | $15 |
| 2,500 | $25 |
| 3,750 | $35 |
| 5,000 | $45 |
| 10,000 | $90 |
| 20,000 | $180 |
| 50,000 | $450 |
| 100,000 | $900 |
International routing is where SMS gets expensive. Sending 10,000 SMS:
| Country | Credits per message | Cost per message | 10,000 SMS cost 1 |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States | 1 | $0.009 | $90 |
| Canada | 3 | $0.028 | $280 |
| Australia | 4 | $0.037 | $370 |
| United Kingdom | 5 | $0.045 | $450 |
| Germany | 12 | $0.108 | $1,080 |
| Netherlands | 12 | $0.108 | $1,080 |
Klaviyo also flags Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Egypt, India, Japan, Mexico, and Singapore as "Not available" on the public price slider 1. If your audience is in those countries, you're on a custom contract.
Approximate combined cost (Email + SMS)
Assumes one US-targeted SMS per active profile per month, which is roughly what an aggressive SMS program does. Adjust up or down for your own behavior.
| Active profiles | SMS credits needed | SMS cost | Combined | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 500 | $20 | ~1,250 pack | $15 | $35/mo |
| 1,000 | $30 | ~1,250 pack | $15 | $45/mo |
| 2,500 | $60 | 2,500 pack | $25 | $85/mo |
| 5,000 | $100 | 5,000 | $45 | $145/mo |
| 10,000 | $150 | 10,000 | $90 | $240/mo |
| 25,000 | $400 | 25,000 | $225 | $625/mo |
| 50,000 | $720 | 50,000 | $450 | $1,170/mo |
| 100,000 | $1,380 | 100,000 | $900 | $2,280/mo |
If your SMS-to-contact ratio is higher than 1:1 — say you send 3 messages a month per subscriber — multiply the SMS column accordingly.
Klaviyo Reviews: still a separate paid add-on
Yes, Reviews is still its own paid product in 2026. It's not bundled into the Email or Email+SMS plans. It's priced by monthly orders, not profiles 1.
| Monthly orders | Reviews price/mo |
|---|---|
| 50 | $0 (free) |
| 250 | $25 |
| 1,000 | $90 |
| 2,000 | $175 |
| 3,500 | $300 |
| 10,000 | $500 |
| 15,000 | $750 |
| 25,000 | $1,000 |
| 50,000 | $1,500 |
| 100,000 | $2,000 |
| 150,000 | $3,000 |
| 200,000 | $4,000 |
| 400,000 | $8,000 |
| 600,000 | $12,000 |
| 800,000 | $16,000 |
| 1,000,000 | $20,000 |
A store doing 1,000 orders/month is paying $90 just for review collection on top of email and SMS. That's a real number when you're stacking it.
The five Klaviyo pricing gotchas
These aren't on the headline pricing tile. Most are confirmed from Klaviyo's own pricing-page FAQ 1.
1. Active profiles include anyone reachable, not just engaged buyers
A "profile" is defined by Klaviyo as "a unique individual in your Klaviyo account... Profiles can be customers, leads, or anyone who has interacted with your brand" 1. The billing trigger isn't "people who opened your last email" — it's anyone Klaviyo can still send to.
That includes:
- Subscribers who haven't opened anything in 12 months
- Leads from a pop-up that never converted
- Anyone you imported from a previous tool
If you don't actively suppress these, you pay for them. Klaviyo even tells you so in their FAQ: they recommend following Klaviyo's guidance on profile suppression "so that you aren't paying for profiles that are no longer providing value" 1.
2. Suppressed contacts are free — but you have to suppress them
Suppression isn't automatic. Klaviyo isn't going to clean your list for you. The default state of a stale subscriber is "still billable." If you want them off your bill, you have to actively suppress them.
This is the single biggest reason Shopify stores' Klaviyo bills creep up over time without any obvious reason. The list grows, nobody prunes it, and one day you wake up paying $400/month for 25,000 profiles when 18,000 of them haven't opened anything in 18 months.
3. SMS credits expire / overage is automatic
Klaviyo's pricing FAQ says: "If you need more messages than your plan allows for you have the option to upgrade your plan. You can upgrade manually or select the option to automatically upgrade to the next plan as your sending volume grows" 1.
In practice that means if you set up auto-upgrade and a campaign over-performs, you can blow past your credit pack and roll onto a bigger one without explicit consent that month. Read your settings.
4. Annual vs. monthly billing isn't really a thing here
Klaviyo's pricing page doesn't show an annual discount toggle the way Mailchimp's does. Klaviyo bills via credit card, and the FAQ confirms: "We accept all major credit cards and you can enter or update your payment details on your account page at any time" 1. Larger accounts may negotiate annual contracts directly with sales, but there's no public "save 20% annually" lever for self-serve customers. Plan accordingly.
5. Crossing a tier mid-cycle bumps you immediately
Klaviyo's FAQ states: "As your active profile count grows you will automatically move to a profile compliant plan" 1. You don't get to finish the month at the old rate. The minute you cross from 5,000 to 5,001 active profiles, you're on the $110 tier — even though that one extra profile only buys you 5,000 more email sends you may not need.
This is why sitting at the top of a tier is more economical than the bottom of the next one.
What you actually pay: three real-world examples
Example 1: Small Shopify store (1,000 contacts, email only)
- Active profiles: 1,000
- Email sends: ~8,000/month (welcome, abandoned cart, post-purchase, 2x weekly campaign)
- SMS: none
- Klaviyo monthly cost: $30/mo 1
This is the sweet spot for Klaviyo. The price is genuinely reasonable, the feature set is full, and the integration with Shopify is bulletproof.
For reference, Spoks at this scale costs $35/mo flat. The closest direct comparison: Klaviyo vs. Spoks.
Example 2: Growing store (10,000 contacts, email + SMS, ~5,000 SMS/mo)
- Active profiles: 10,000
- Email tier: $150/mo (covers up to 100,000 sends — way more than you'll use)
- SMS: 5,000 US credits = $45/mo
- Klaviyo monthly cost: $195/mo 1
If half your SMS goes to Canada and the UK, that $45 becomes more like $130. Real number: $280/mo all-in.
Example 3: Larger store (50,000 contacts, email + SMS, ~25,000 SMS/mo)
- Active profiles: 50,000 (top of the $720 tier)
- Email tier: $720/mo
- SMS: 25,000 US credits = $225/mo
- Reviews (optional): $1,000/mo for 25,000 orders
- Klaviyo monthly cost: $945/mo for email + SMS 1, or $1,945/mo with Reviews
At this size you're a serious Klaviyo customer and you'd negotiate. But list price is list price.
When Klaviyo is worth the price
Honest take: Klaviyo earns its premium when your business actually needs the premium features.
You're doing $50K+/month in revenue. At that point a few hundred dollars a month for email tooling is rounding error against the revenue email drives.
You have a dedicated email or lifecycle marketer. Klaviyo's segmentation, predictive analytics, and flow logic reward someone who knows what to do with them. If nobody on your team will use predictive CLV, you're paying for it anyway.
You run complex segmentation. Cross-product attribution, "VIPs who haven't bought in 60 days but opened the last 3 emails," lookalike-style behavioral cohorts — Klaviyo's segment builder is genuinely best-in-class.
You're integrating multiple data sources. Klaviyo's 350+ integrations and its Klaviyo Data Platform layer are real differentiators against simpler tools.
For a deeper look at whether the feature set holds up, see our full Klaviyo review.
When Klaviyo isn't worth it
You're under 5,000 contacts. You won't touch 80% of the platform. You're paying for a Ferrari to do grocery runs.
Your flows are simple. Welcome series, abandoned cart, abandoned browse, post-purchase, win-back. That's it. Every modern Shopify email tool does these. Klaviyo's lift over the alternatives at that complexity is mostly aesthetic.
You — the founder — are doing email yourself. Klaviyo's UI rewards expertise. If you're context-switching from inventory to fulfillment to email twice a week, a simpler tool will save you hours.
You don't need international SMS. The country pricing skew is brutal for non-US senders. If you're a UK-only store paying 5x per send and an SMS gateway add-on, you'll have a price shock.
We covered this in more detail in Klaviyo alternatives for Shopify and the broader best email marketing for Shopify guide.
Alternatives at every tier
Spoks — $35/month flat, unlimited contacts
Spoks charges $35/month regardless of list size. Email and SMS are both included in the flat rate. Built natively for Shopify with pre-built flows for the common Shopify scenarios (welcome, abandoned cart, post-purchase, win-back, browse abandonment).
Honest tradeoffs: Spoks is newer than Klaviyo. Smaller template library. No predictive analytics like Klaviyo's CLV or churn scoring. If you're a $5M+/year store with a dedicated lifecycle marketer building 40-step flows, you'll feel the gap. If you're under that, you probably won't.
Direct comparison: Spoks vs. Klaviyo.
Omnisend
Omnisend's paid plans start at $16/month per their pricing page 2. Includes email and some SMS credits, with credit-pack pricing similar to Klaviyo's structure. Strong template library, native Shopify integration. Mid-market pricing fits between Spoks and Klaviyo.
Full comparison: Omnisend vs. Klaviyo for Shopify.
Shopify Email (built-in)
Free for the first 10,000 emails per month, then around $1 per 1,000 emails afterward. No SMS, no real automation depth, no segmentation worth the name. It's a tool for blasting campaigns, not running a lifecycle program. Fine as a stopgap; not a real Klaviyo competitor.
See our Shopify email marketing guide for the longer story.
Mailchimp
Mailchimp is the legacy alternative. Cheaper on paper than Klaviyo at low tiers, but not built for Shopify ecommerce and the integration depth shows it. Full breakdown: Klaviyo vs. Mailchimp for Shopify.
FAQ
How much does Klaviyo cost per month?
Klaviyo's email-only plan starts at $20/month for 251-500 contacts and scales up by tier to $2,300/month at 250,000 contacts 1. SMS is billed separately based on credit packs. Most small Shopify stores (under 2,500 contacts, email only) pay $20-$60/month.
Is Klaviyo's free plan enough?
The free plan covers up to 250 active profiles, 500 emails/month, and 150 mobile message credits/month 1. If you're pre-launch or under 250 contacts, yes. The moment you cross 250 contacts or 500 sends in a month, you're on a paid tier.
Does Klaviyo charge for unsubscribed contacts?
No — Klaviyo only bills on active profiles, and unsubscribed or suppressed profiles aren't counted. But you have to actively suppress them. Klaviyo's own FAQ recommends following their guidance on which profiles to suppress "so that you aren't paying for profiles that are no longer providing value" 1.
How much does Klaviyo SMS cost?
In the US, SMS costs $0.009 per send (1 credit per message) 1. International rates are dramatically higher: Canada $0.028, UK $0.045, Australia $0.037, Germany and Netherlands $0.108 per message. Credits are sold in monthly packs (1,250 / 2,500 / 3,750 / 5,000) or linearly above 5,000 at $0.009 per credit.
What's the most expensive Klaviyo plan?
On the public slider, the top tier is 200,001-250,000 active profiles at $2,300/month for email 1. Above 250,000 profiles, pricing isn't public — you have to contact Klaviyo sales for a quote.
Is there an annual discount?
Klaviyo's public pricing page doesn't expose a self-serve annual toggle (unlike Mailchimp) 1. Larger accounts negotiate annual contracts with sales directly. For self-serve customers, you're effectively on monthly.
Why is my Klaviyo bill going up?
Almost always because your active profile count crossed a tier boundary. Klaviyo auto-upgrades to the next tier the moment you cross it 1. The fix: suppress profiles that haven't engaged in 6-12 months. If you don't, you pay for them.
What does Klaviyo charge for Reviews?
Klaviyo Reviews is a separate paid add-on priced by monthly orders, not contacts 1. It's free up to 50 orders/month, then $25 (250 orders), $90 (1,000 orders), $500 (10,000 orders), and up to $20,000/month at 1,000,000 orders.
Final verdict
Klaviyo's pricing is fair if you're using what you're paying for. For a store doing serious revenue with a marketer running real lifecycle programs, the platform pays for itself many times over.
For everyone else — small stores, founders doing email themselves, anyone whose flow library is "welcome, cart, post-purchase, done" — Klaviyo's price-to-utilization ratio is bad. You're paying for predictive analytics you don't read, segment builders you don't use, and a template library you'll never touch.
If you're in that second group, look at a flat-rate option like Spoks ($35/month, unlimited contacts, email + SMS included), Omnisend, or just stay on Shopify Email until you outgrow it. You can always migrate to Klaviyo later when the use case justifies the bill.
